One of my favorite Kentucky authors is one that most people don't know about, which is a shame. Elizabeth Madox Roberts. She was born in Perryville, Kentucky on October 30, 1881 and lived most of her life in Springfield. Her works include
The Time of Man (1926),
The Great Meadow (1930), and
A Buried Treasure (1931). She was a major influence on Robert Penn Warren and even Faulkner. I have read
The Time of Man and it is astonishing. In recent years, Roberts work has been neglected of critical attention. A shame. Tunnell Mill Pictures hopes to make an eventual film version of
The Time of Man.
